Michael, a young man down the street from me has one of these mopeds and I
have worked on it a bit for him so I am somewhat familiar with what you have.
Parts are hard to find but some are available from time to time on eBay. Do an
eBay search for "vespa moped", something may turn up. There are advertising
pages from older publications available sometimes that would show some of the
colors available and what a new one looked like, decals for example.
Many mopeds from that period used some common parts, the tail light lens was
one of those. Look at Puch, Motobecane, or Tomos moped lenses to see if they
may fit. Tomos is still making mopeds and there are many dealers around, find
one near you and take your moped with you to see if one of their tail light
lenses will fit. Many of these dealers also work on other older mopeds and you
may get lucky and find more than you would expect. The mechanics of mopeds are
so similar that someone with experience with a Thomos or Puch could get it
running for you.
If your moped is nearly complete then consider an original condition running
moped and remember your grandfather every time you go for a ride.
