> The only bad side to
> California moped laws is that you need a full motorcycle license
Hi Scott! Are you sure of that? I know that *scooter* riders need a motorcycle
license but I thought that mopeders only needed a regular driver's license. At
least that is my understanding of the vehicle codes. Also it's what the DMV
(3 difference worker bees) have told me. If what you say is correct, then I'm
peding breaking the rules. But what else is new? As you point out it really
doesn't matter since there isn't a single cop in the state that has any
knowledge, or very little knowledge of moped laws. They know that you have to
be wearing a helmet, that's a easy one. They may also know that a moped is
limited to 30 mph, must have a plate, and that the ped is entitled to use a
full traffic lane and is usually restricted from using a bike lane or path.
Other than that, they haven't got a clue, and don't want to deal with it.
After all most of the police were born after the Big Moped Craze of the 70's,
or they were children at the time. I have two registered mopeds with plates
that I ride daily, sometimes pulling a trailer, thru the northen suburbs of
L.A. and Ventura counties and have had zip problems with the law.
