away till next year and it is 40 degrees.May be carburator icing and you
need a Artic COLD weather kit..Why would anyone be out with a moped at
that temp?I am surprised it would run at all.Any one have COLD weather
test specs as to when it is,if ever,too cold to run right.OIL tends to
thicken in the fuel could be a cause

Here's some input from the Great White North. Although not exactly beyond
the Arctic Circle, we have fairly cold weather in Toronto, from about
mid-October to late April. Of the relatively few moped owners left (we all
seem to know one another) quite a few use their 'ped all year around, except
when the pavement is icy. There isn't much to it - engines will always
start, provided; a/ there is no water in the gasoline
b/ you use the right type of oil to mix the gas with, and
c/ you apply the right mixture ratio.
d/ only use regular gas and stay away from "winter gas"; that's garbage for
mopeds.
e/ use the right heatrange spark plug; we have found the NGK BR6HS to be the
best in under all weather conditions
I can wholeheartedly recommend the RedLine 100% synthetic "Smokeless"
2-stroke oil that we have found of absolutely superior to all others. Any
bike will run with it on 50:1 (2%) regardless what the original manual says.
It also has a special additive that compensates for the absence of lead in
the gasoline (which is an octane stabiliser and as such very good for
precise preignition timing).
Store the moped inside (the room doesn't have to be heated) that's all.
And dress warm (long johns, lots of leather, etc.).

But I'm curious if this works - riding the moped until the first snowflake
turns up.

And ofcouse I use syntetic oil... the best there is!

1. Last year I mopeded in every month of the year except January. If that's possible in Toronto, you
Americans should have nothing to worry about! (Except ice! P.S. I put knobby mountain bike tires on the
Batavus for THIS winter!)
2. Redline is THE oil to use. Someone told me once that moped engines pollute as much as FOUR modern
cars. So now I use redline mixed 64:1 in my Minarelli. NO smoke. NO odour. NO fouling. No seizing.
3. Every European bike I have work perfectly with a BR6HS. If your spark plug cap is the big newer kind
with built in resistance, you can use a B6HS.
My bike seems to run better the colder the air is.
This morning was 6 degrees Celcius (43 F for you stone-agers ;-) All you need is warm boots, heavy
socks, long johns, two sweaters, wind-proof jacket, a really cool long scarf, full-face helmet, and warm
gloves... and you're good to go! Ironic that I tell people I ride a moped because it's the most
"convenient" mode of transportation!

..and I have fixed new gas/mix, spark plug, gasket - everything..

I have put the bike on the stand.

When I'm trying to run it normaly -
(I have screwed the "idle gas screw" all out)
the moped seem to speed up - although the "idle screw is taken out".

If I want the moped to be run on low-speed, I have to push in the
gas-regulator backwards.
Then the speed slowes down - and as soon as I release it, the idle speed
goes up again.

unregistered vehicles, one of which sounded like a rocket and was leaking
gas... they threatened to impound them, but i begged and they let us go...
i learned an important lesson: unlike a bicycle, you must obey all laws...
today, i rode the pacer down to 185th street manhattan on broadway, just to
see if
cops would say anything.. i used hand signals, stopped, gave right of
way... the whole nine yards... i passed by about 10 cops total, most of them
smiled, one asked me how much i got the bike for, and another gave me "the
look"...
Helmetless, unregistered, unlicensed, and underage, they didn't say
anything... As long as i'm careful, it's cool.

Ok I ordered some of the parts for the project I've been working on

1.50% larger pistons to be bored down
2.New gaskets
3.All new piston hardware, clips, bearings, rings.
4.New street tires and new tubes.
5.Halogen headlights.

Tommarrow I'm going to order the biturbo exhaust to make fit on while the
parts for the piston gets here. I'm also getting the seat recoverd. This
whole thing should really give a new life to this little 50cc machine. Tell
me your opinions.

personal experience, don't waste your time with platinum or splitfires,
just use the size that your ped says to use (you can always go hotter or

Hi Ryan (and other mopeders ofcourse)

I got a load of Honda C wiring diagrams, but are you sure your bike is a '59
C100 Super Cub ? I thought the Super Cub models are from a later date.
Anyway, I got the diagrams for the:
C50, C50Z-2, C50Z-Z, C50Z-A (C50L), C50C, C50E
C70, C70Z-2, C70Z-Z, C70C, C70E
C90, C90Z-2, C90Z-Z, C90C, C90E, C90G, C90N, C90M-F, C90M-G, C90M-N.

Since a number of diagrams are the same this gives nine different diagrams.
What can you tell me about the bike, maybe I can find a close match. (Like:
electric starter or not, types of lights, types of switches)

my honda c100 super cub has an electric start, since there is obviously an
electric motor on top of the engine. it does not have blinkers, but two
small black bottons on either side of the handlebars. there is also a light
switch on the left side. there is a rear light and a front light. anyways
it may be a later year bike, but from pictures i have found it similar to a
1959 and 1962, but those are the only two pictures that i have found on this
bike. could you send me a wiring diagram in a email? thanks so much

..when I take the choke out, it runs a little and then dies..
What is wrong ?

It' can seem like the engine is getting to much oil/gas, cause the spark
plug is a little "oily"..
..in this case - what is wrong then ?

me $75 but now the bike runs fine. By the way this is a motorcycle (honda250)
I am restoring. Got it for free so why not. Been sitting in a barn for a

If the four screw's in to cylinder aren't tighten like they should - then
_this_ might be the problem.
(isn't that wat your saying ?)

But can the moped run - with a blocked airfilter ?

The float should be fine. I checked it when I installed the carb.

It must be too less gas, with air cut off(choke on) it runs, so when choke
off it has not enough gas for the amount of air to give a good combustable
mix.
the oil on the plug is from not stroking on lean mix.. and /or running with
your choke on

so fix the jet or gas tap, check float and it 'll work.

You mean the four screw near the spark plug ?
No, I refered to your carb's trouble.

If in case the nuts / screws near the plug are loose, it is a wonder it runs
any how..tighten not to firmly crosswise. and / or check gasket condition.

When is the last time you cleaned the muffler?If plugged the fuel mix wil=
l =

not exit properly and cause a hesitant operation.Also check the plug gap.=
