I have ridden many long steep hills. At speeds above approx. 35 mph the engine seems to "skip out" and slow the bike before revving hard again.I found it smoother at times to simply shut off the spark and let the fuel mix lube the cylinder unburned. This ,however, may lead to a gummy buildup of soot in the first few inches of the now rapidly cooling exhaust pipe.I have gone past the 40 mph marker on my speedo to where 50 might be if it were printed on the dial. Handling at this speed was dangerously difficult with all the gear I had on board. It didn't sound good for the engine and it was hard to control so I slowed down and decided not to push it like that any more. bad skipping out and revving cycling every few seconds above about 42 mph.sounded like an asyncronous spark advance to me. see photos of my long distance moped trip at http://community.webtv.net/manonbicycle/MANONBICYCLEWEBTV
